    Every piece begins with Indonesian batik fabric, chosen for its motif and colour — patterns rooted in a centuries-old wax-resist tradition.

  2. 02

    The cut

    Panels are cut and placed by eye, so the motif sits beautifully across each bag, pouch and Buddy.

  3. 03

    The beadwork

    Beads are stitched on by hand, tracing the lines of the pattern so it catches the light as you move.

    The finish

    Linings, handles, clasps and seams are completed and checked by hand — small batches, never mass-produced.

Are your pieces really handmade?

Yes. Every piece is cut, stitched and finished by hand in small batches, and the beadwork on our bags is sewn on bead by bead. That is why no two pieces are exactly alike.

What are your beaded bags made from?

The outer is cotton printed with traditional batik patterns and embellished with hand-stitched beadwork; the lining is polyester-cotton. Several designs, such as the Honey Glow Batik, have a twisted leather cord handle. Materials and dimensions are listed on every product page.

Is the batik on your bags hand-drawn?

No, and we think you should know. Our beaded bags use cotton printed with batik patterns rather than hand-drawn batik tulis. What is handmade is the cutting, beadwork, stitching and finishing. Our guide to the craft of batik explains the difference.

What are Batik Buddies made from?

Our Batik Buddies are plush companions sewn by hand from Indonesian batik fabric, so the pattern placement and colours vary slightly from one Buddy to the next.

Will my piece look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but not identical. Because each piece is made by hand, the part of the batik pattern that appears on it varies, and screens display colour differently. These natural variations are part of handmade character, not a defect.

Do you restock sold-out pieces?

Some designs return in a new small batch; others are made only once. If a piece you love has sold out, email contact@batiklifestyle.com and we will let you know whether more are planned.
