Our story

Our Story

Batik Lifestyle is a Singapore-based online boutique that turns batik’s heritage motifs into handcrafted bags, keepsakes and home pieces, made by hand in small batches.

Where we begin

A love of batik, carried into everyday life

Batik is one of Southeast Asia’s great textile traditions: cloth patterned with wax and dye, its motifs handed down through generations. Batik Lifestyle was founded with a deep passion for that heritage, and a simple idea — that batik belongs in everyday life, not folded away for special occasions. Every design starts with the cloth itself: a motif, a palette, a story worth carrying.

So we design pieces to be lived with: beaded bags and charms for evenings out, pouches and accessories for every day, and home pieces for the table and the kitchen.

How we make

Made by hand, in small batches

Every piece is cut, stitched and finished by hand, passing through skilled hands from the first cut of cloth to the final stitch. On our beaded bags, the beadwork is stitched by hand — slow, careful work that gives the surface its depth and shimmer.

Because we make in small batches, the part of the pattern that lands on each piece, and the way the colours fall, shift slightly from one to the next. No two are exactly alike, and we think that is the point.

What we use

Honest about our cloth

We believe honesty is part of craftsmanship, so we would rather you knew exactly what you are buying. Our beaded bags are made from cotton printed with traditional batik patterns and lined with polyester-cotton, and our Batik Buddies are sewn from Indonesian batik fabric. The handwork lies in choosing where each motif falls, cutting, beading, stitching and finishing.

Curious about the difference between hand-drawn, stamped and printed batik? Our guide to the craft of batik explains it simply.
