Our approach

Sustainability

We make in small batches, design pieces to be used for years, and share the care know-how that keeps them looking their best: a slower, more considered way to own beautiful things.

Small batches

Making what is needed

We make our pieces in small batches rather than large production runs. It keeps us close to the work, lets us check every bead and seam, and means we are not producing far more than we can sell. Some designs return in a new batch; others are made once and then retired. Working this way also lets us adjust what we make next to the pieces you tell us you love.

Made to last

Pieces meant to be used, and kept

A beaded bag or a batik apron should earn its place by being used, again and again. We favour practical constructions — lined bags, secure closures, sturdy braided and cord handles — and heritage motifs that do not date with the season, so a piece can stay with you for years or be passed on. When something does need attention, simple care usually brings it back.

Care

Care that extends a piece’s life

The most sustainable bag is the one you already own. Gentle care keeps batik colours rich and beadwork secure, so we publish clear guidance for every type of piece in our care guide, and we are happy to advise if something needs attention — just get in touch.

Honesty

Clear about what we use

A considered purchase starts with clear information. We tell you plainly that our beaded bags use cotton printed with batik patterns and that our Batik Buddies are made from Indonesian batik fabric, and we explain the difference between printed, stamped and hand-drawn batik in the craft of batik. If you ever have a question about a material, ask us and we will tell you what we know.

What we are working on

We are a small team and we do not claim to have everything figured out. We keep looking at our materials, packaging and shipping for better options, and we will share changes on this page as we make them. We would rather make one honest improvement than a dozen vague promises. Have a suggestion? We would love to hear it at contact@batiklifestyle.com.
